When the Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 first launched last year, we praised it for combining a 14-inch display (then rare among gaming laptops) with Nvidia GeForce RTX 20-Series power and AMD Ryzen processing at a sweet price. The updated 2021 G14 uses the same design, but pumps things up to RTX 30-Series and newer Ryzen 5000 chips. FROM THE LATE 1960S until the mid-2010s, the McDonnell Douglas DC-9 was a staple in every major Venezuelan airline. From the long-gone yet always-remembered Avensa (VE) and VIASA (VA) to today’s Aeropostal (VH) and Laser (QL), the ‘Diesel-9’ was the backbone of many a fleet, with generations of Pilots and Cabin and Maintenance Crews familiarized and trained to fly this piece of history. ON JUNE 8, 2022, Breeze Airways officially launched transcontinental service using the Airbus A220-300 from Richmond (RIC), the capital of Virginia, to San Francisco (SFO), a prime tourism destination and home to many technology companies. The airline’s founder and CEO, David Neeleman, was on board the former Bombardier CS300 to mark the occasion, and the flight was mostly full. The airline hoped it would be the first of many such long-distance trips. Breeze has plans for 18 transcontinental routes using the A220 to San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Las Vegas. Conventional wisdom says that when passenger revenues begin to drop, all a railroad can do is go before the Interstate Commerce Commission and ask for a rate increase. It’s also commonly argued that empty trains, not low fares, are the prime reason for insufficient revenues. Out on the West Coast there is a railroad that takes the latter view. It is the Southern Pacific, and it is demonstrating that it is quite possible to operate luxury trains at low rates and, by keeping an eye on the expected loadings, to change the consist to that happy point where the train is comfortably crowded rather than half full. Officially, HP’s Envy laptops are only its second-best consumer models, slotted between affordable Pavilions and flagship Spectres—but you’d never know it from looking at the new Envy 16. Apples are better than oranges. I kid: The entire point of the expression “comparing apples to oranges” is that you can’t directly compare the two.
